Good kitchen lighting has three layers: ambient (recessed cans), task (under-cabinet), and accent (pendants and toe-kick). We plan and install all three, wired to dimmers and switched in logical zones.
LED fixtures use less energy than incandescent lighting and are rated for far longer service life, so bulb changes become rare.
